Honeywell provides Alerton products ('Products'), software programs ('Software'), firmware, e.g. Setting up VLCs and Advanced VLCs with VisualLogic.
Alerton’s VLCA-1688 is an advanced application controller (AAC; BTL listing is pending) with a high resolution 12-bit A/D; D/A converter and new, 32-bit processor and real-time clock that supports its own schedules, trendlogs and alarms. The VLCA-1688 includes monitored on-board Hand-Off-Auto (HOA) switches, Ethernet or MS/TP connectivity, and additional math functions beyond the standard VLC. It also leverages new DDC Function blocks such as an astronomical clock and wet bulb calculator. With 16 universal inputs, the VLCA-1688 economically fills the gap between the VLC-1188 and a VLX with EXP modules in an Alerton system. Alerton’s VisualLogic Display (VLD) is a communicating sensor-controller combination with built-in temperature and humidity sensors that targets common applications such as roof top units, fan-coil units and heat pumps.
It provides a cost-effective solution to meet in-room hotel requirements—an easy-to-use interface, easy-to-see digital display, and Celsius/Fahrenheit change over—where you already have Alerton systems in public or common areas. The VLD-362W features an integrated wireless receiver that communicates to different combinations of sensors for occupancy and detects whether doors and/or windows are open or closed, then reports back to the front end BAS. The Alerton® AZW-5000 provides for the wireless extension of a BACnet network using mesh networking topology to ensure self-healing, reliable communications. The AZW-5000 offers the ability to locate Alerton VisualLogic controllers (VLCs) up to 200 feet away from the nearest wired or wireless connection point. They send their employees to Alerton’s certification courses, but the best training comes on the job. Usually having electrical, facilities, or HVAC experience can get your foot in the door. Another good way to get familiar with the software is to do facilities work for companies with buildings that use Alerton products. This is a good way to get operational knowledge of the system, but it will be difficult to get a deep understanding. Learning one site is good, but you will only see one way to do things, it will be hard to know why it was done a certain way, and older sites may have obsolete code.

But if you have access to a site, Visual Logic (Alerton’s BMS programming utility in Viseo) has a Live Data function that will show values of all selected points, and is a good way to see what the code is doing. If the site is a non-critical environment you may even be able to modify and attempt to improve it.
Just be sure you have backups and know how to restore them. There are also tools in Visual Logic that allow point value simulation.
